Keelung is a city by the harbor that is interwoven with winding roads and rolling hills. The entrance to the “Bridge Tower” is hidden within Keelung’s maze-like complex lanes and hidden alleys. It serves as a vertical shortcut to bring pedestrians to the backyard of Zhupu Altar on the Hope Hills. The Tower is a convenient path for tourists and residents to climb up to the mountain which will become an important scenic spot to see the city, the mountains and the sea.

The vertical shortcut and the horizontal walkway directly connect mountain and sea, nature and urbanism. Through this interface, residents of Keelung will have a refreshed perspective of their city and tourists will be able to learn about the history and vibrancy of the harbor city. The mountain represents Zhupu Altar while the sea represents Keelung City. If these two entities are defined as A and B, the interface between the two, the Bridge Tower, will be X. Our inspiration for the Bridge Tower comes from the nearby cranes at the Keelung Port. One delivers goods to the city, the other transports people to the hilltop.

基隆—港口之城，是由山與海以及蜿蜒的道路交織而成，是一座城市中潛藏著複雜巷弄的迷宮。「Bridge Tower」亦可視為一個捷徑，隱身基隆巷弄之中，垂直串連至希望之丘上的主普壇後院，希望能成為基隆市民及觀光客上下山的便民立體豎道，同時也將成為觀山看海讀城之重要景點。垂直豎道與水平廊道，簡單有力的連結山與海、自然與都市，透過一個媒介讓基隆人重新認識基隆，同時也讓旅人認識這充滿歷史與活力的港都特色。山與海即為主普壇與基隆市，二者若以A和B代表，X則為似塔似橋的串連媒介，透過垂直豎道將人帶上水平通廊再接至主普壇後方。此發想來自基隆港隨處可見的起重吊車，一座運送貨物至城市，另一座則將人潮引至山上。
